Millions of Peaches (or 3)

It’s officially summer of 2019, and it’s time for a peach update. This April we planted a bare-root Veteran peach (along with a few other new fruit trees) and unfortunately it never showed any sign of life. Everything else is doing great, putting on leaves and blooming.

You know what ELSE is doing great? Our second year Contender peach, which came through the toughest winter like a champion. Virtually no damage. Guess what else…it’s LOADED with tiny little peaches. Which I have been dutifully thinning out.

We were visiting Franz Witte (a nearby nursery where the Contender was purchased) and they had just gotten a shipment of Contender peaches. A whole flat. They told us we could cut the plastic and pick out our favorite, so we enthusiastically did so. The Veteran peach was in a prime, sunny peach location, so it came out and went into a pot, and Contender peach #2 had a new home near Contender peach #1. They are both very happy, and so am I.
