Oyster Mushroom Update 2017
I moved the oyster logs into the garden last year after the chickens ate our first flush of oyster mushrooms. Not that I wouldn’t feed them mushrooms, since I appreciate all the delicious eggs they lay, but the first ones? Anyhow, on October 23, 2017, we happened to pull some weeds back around the cottonwood log we plugged 4 years ago, and behold! Huge, beautiful blue oyster mushrooms!
I really need to soak the mushroom logs next year so they have a chance at producing!
I don’t think I’ll ever get over how impressive mushrooms are. One day there is nothing there, the next day there is a perfectly formed delicious meal. Blue oysters are one of my favorites, so I’m glad they are doing well! Who knew cottonwoods would be a good log for them?
